Record Store As Community

Record stores are awesome, but they aren’t always the most welcoming places. Our store is staffed by people with a wide knowledge of music, but more importantly with an abiding curiosity and thirst for more. Our space is here for performances and events, and everyone is invited to be a part of it.

Not an Algorithm

The Government Center exists because we love music

We love discovering new and old music in organic ways, like getting recommendations from people who are excited about something they love, or buying a record we’ve never heard of just because the cover art blew our minds. We do not sell records online, because we’d rather talk to people in person, and because we believe shopping for something as important as music should involve human interaction. We keep our participation in Record Store Day to a minimum because we’re here for the music, not for a bunch of garbage that’s going to end up in a landfill. We are people who care about music and building a community around it, and we hope you’ll join us.

Our goal is to be a hub for people in the community who care about music to come together and discuss, discover, write about, listen to, create and perform music.
